    • JOB DESCRIPTION

      ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY (EHS) SPECIALIST:

      • Complying   with   the   requirements   of   environmental   management   in accordance with the national law and World Bank Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESSs) and EHS guidelines.
      • Implementing  Environmental  and  Social  Management  Plan  (ESMP)  as outlined in the project Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report of October, 2023
      • Supervise,  monitor  and  report  on  the  effectiveness  of  implementing environmental mitigation measures as identified in the ESMP.
      • To oversee the implementation of EHS procedures & plans at site;
      • To carry out Site inspections and WB compliance monitoring as per approved Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP);
      • To  prepare  monthly  and  quarterly  reports  on  EHS  performance  and compliance
      • To carry out on job capacity building on EHS aspects for the PIT.
      • To carry out incidents’ investigation (RCA) & reporting to TRC and  WB accordingly.
      • To collaborate with other Departments and Units in the implementation of the project
      • To liaise with other stakeholders/third parties in ensuring environmental, health and safety aspects are being informed to and addressed.
      • Any other duties assigned by the PM.
    • REQUIRED SKILLS

      Qualification and Experience:

      Environmental, Health and Safety Specialists shall have an appropriate Master’s Degree in environmental sciences, natural resources, certified with occupational health and safety studies or any other related field. He/she must have at least 10 years’ of relevant work experience in development projects, including experience within Tanzania. Familiar with national policies and the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Frameworks (ESF) and other relevant EHS guiding policies. He/she must have experience in the execution of ESIAs, including compilation and implementation /monitoring of ESMPs and experience in management of occupational health and safety aspects at the Project level. He/she shall possess good interpersonal and communication skills: Fluency in English is essential and knowledge of Swahili is desirable.
